We’ve had a busy couple of months here at Stitch HQ. Bev has been creating lots of exciting new patterns and kits for you all to sink your teeth into! With plenty of new kits coming your way, we often get posed with the question “i’m a total beginner - which kit suits me best?”. So, without further ado we’ve put together a selection of our favourite kits and organised them into skill levels!
You’ll be onto advanced kits in no time. 😉
What is my knitting skill level?
At Stitch, we grade our kits and knitting patterns in the order: beginners, intermediate and advanced. If you’re a total beginner we recommend having a read of our how to knit for beginners guide before you get started with your new kit! Otherwise, if you’re looking for more of a challenge pick one of our intermediate kits and if you’re a total pro, choose advanced.
Beginner
If you’ve never picked up a pair of knitting needles before - these are the kits for you. They’ll help you get to grips with learning the basic knit stitch, casting on and casting off. Starting your first project can be pretty daunting at first, we recommend practicing a few rows on some separate needles so you can get the hang of hand movements and stitches before you begin.
Getting the hang of it? What’s next?
Okay so you’ve completed your very first knitting project, congrats! If you’re feeling nice and confident the Stitch team recommend that you try this one next, it’ll help you get the hang of purl stitch. By the end of this you’re bound to be an expert at both purl and knit stitch!
Intermediate
You’ve grasped everything from casting on, both knit and purl stitch and casting off. You’re now ready to make your own clothes using mattress stitch, yay! These are the kits we propose would be the best next step for you on your exciting knitting journey.
Fancy having a go at crocheting?
Great news, we’ve started to introduce crochet kits to our selection of Stitch kits! If you fancy having a crack at learning how to crochet then try out our new kit, Chunky Crochet Bucket Hat. It’ll help you get the hang of learning how to create granny squares and you’ll end up with the cutest accessory that you can wear all year round!
Advanced
You’ve reached the advanced stage of knitting, wowza! So you’re at the stage where you can pretty much knit anything and that’s great. We recommend this babygrow romper pattern, it uses methods such as increasing and other bits of fiddly work. You’ll be able to advance your skills to the best of your ability with this one!
Keep an eye out for more Stitch advanced kits coming soon!
We hope that gives you more of an idea of how the Stitch kits work. Remember, everyone is different and some knitters pick the skill up faster than others so be patient with yourself! Practice stitches separately before starting your project if you want to be safe and be sure to watch our videos explaining everything in detail.
Let us know which kits you love the best and if we can do anything to improve them, we love your feedback and we can’t wait to release more kits soon!
